Scholarships
The Weavers' Guild of St. Louis is a not-for-profit organization that sponsors lectures and workshops on
weaving and related fiber arts areas and awards scholarships for short-term, in-depth continuing education
in those fields. Each scholarship recipient then teaches, via a presentation to the Guild membership,
what she or he has learned in the course of study. The education program of the Weavers' Guild of St. Louis
is supported by proceeds from the annual guild sale.
Guidelines:
- Qualifying courses include, but are not limited to, multi-day workshops sponsored by the Guild as well as multi-day workshops held before or after Convergence or regional weavers' conferences. Applications to attend multi-day workshops sponsored by organizations other than these must be accompanied by a brochure describing the event. Conference seminars and mini-sessions do not qualify. The scholarship is intended to support the cost of tuition for the program, not the cost of transportation, lodging or meals.
- Application forms may be obtained from the Scholarship Committee Chairperson (or you can print them from here) and must be typed, computer-generated or legibly printed.
- Deadlines for submission of applications are January 15 for workshops to be held the following summer, April 15 for workshops to be held during the following fall, and October 15 for workshops to be held during the following winter and spring.
- Applicants need not be members of the Weavers' Guild of St. Louis, but a maximum of two scholarships per year, one each to two individual non-members, may be awarded.
- If the event for which the scholarship money was received is cancelled, the recipient must return the money to the Weavers' Guild of St. Louis as soon as possible.
- Each recipient must make a presentation to the Weavers' Guild of St. Louis within one year after the completion of the study. The aim of the presentation is to teach something that the recipient learned in the course of study. Recipients of more than $250 are expected to give a mini-workshop as well as a presentation.
- Recipients, whether members or non-members, are not eligible to apply for another Weavers' Guild of St. Louis Scholarship until the third year after the original scucessful application, i.e. recipients may not submit another application in the next two years.
